Antique French Vendange Wine Tasting Table | Circa 1850
A beautifully weathered antique French vendange table, traditionally used in the vineyards during grape harvest season. These folding wine tables were carried into the fields where workers gathered to sort and taste grapes during the vendange, the annual grape harvest central to French winemaking culture. Functional by design yet sculptural in form, vendange tables are now prized for their rustic character and centuries of patina.
This example features a richly aged pine top with exceptional texture, saw marks, and wear consistent with age and agricultural use. The dark stained folding base contrasts beautifully against the raw top, with elegant trestle supports and a turned locking finial beneath. The top folds vertically for easy storage, a hallmark of authentic vendange construction.
The scale makes it incredibly versatile. It’s ideally layered as a breakfast table, center table, entry table, or intimate dining table.
Dimensions:
43.5” Diameter x 28” H
Good antique condition consistent with age and use. Heavy surface wear, age-related shrinkage, old repairs, scattered wormwood character, surface scratching, and visible patina throughout. The top shows historic repairs and natural movement to the planks, all adding to the authenticity and charm of the piece. Folding mechanism functions properly and table is structurally sound and sturdy.
