Norwegian Sculpted Teak Sideboard - Mid-Century Modern | Circa 1960
A masterclass in Scandinavian restraint and sculptural form, this Norwegian mid-century sideboard embodies the quiet sophistication for which Nordic design is revered. Crafted in richly toned teak, the piece balances architectural precision with soft, organic detailing. The piece offers beautifully contoured drawer fronts, whose flowing lines create both visual rhythm and integrated pulls without the need for hardware.
Stamped “Made in Norway,” this piece reflects the country’s celebrated postwar furniture industry, which produced designs known for their exceptional craftsmanship, durable construction, and understated elegance. Norwegian makers of the period favored sculptural woodworking over applied ornament, resulting in furniture that feels both timeless and distinctly modern.
Equally suited as a dining room sideboard, media console, or statement storage piece, this cabinet offers substantial functionality while maintaining a refined, gallery-like presence. Its clean lines and organic forms allow it to integrate seamlessly into interiors ranging from classic mid-century to contemporary and minimalist spaces.
A striking example of Scandinavian design at its most poised — warm, disciplined, and enduring.
Dimensions
79.5” wide x 17 “ deep x 31” tall
Condition Report
This Norwegian teak sideboard is in very good vintage condition consistent with age and use. The piece presents beautifully overall, with a warm, even patina and strong structural integrity.
Exterior:
The top surface shows visible surface wear, including scratches and scuffs concentrated on the left side and left rear corner. These marks are cosmetic and consistent with decades of use, and they do not affect the structural soundness of the cabinet. Edges remain clean with only minor expected wear.
Back Panel:
The rear panel exhibits notable damage, including an abrasion. This damage is not visible when the piece is placed against a wall and does not impact stability nor functionality.
Case and Structure:
The cabinet body is solid and stable. Doors and drawers operate smoothly. Legs are secure and the piece sits level.
Hardware and Locks:
The original key is missing. An unoriginal skeleton key is included solely as a tool to assist in opening the doors. The locks are present but do not function as locking mechanisms without the original key.
Interior:
Interior surfaces show light wear consistent with normal storage use.
