A classic turn-of-the-century mirror featuring a carved faux bamboo frame with warm patina and nicely turned details. The simple rectangular form makes it easy to layer into a variety of interiors, from traditional to eclectic.
Faux bamboo became popular in France in the late 19th century, inspired a the broader Asian design movement. To cater the rising middle class, who desired but couldn’t always afford exotic imports, French craftsmen mimicked the look of bamboo using carved wood, offering an exotic, lighter aesthetic while maintaining European construction.
