Large Antique Louis Philippe Gilt Framed Mirror, France | Circa 1890
A beautiful late 19th century French Louis Philippe mirror featuring the classic softly rounded corners and elegant simplicity characteristic of the period. Retaining its original gilt finish with delicate beaded inner trim, the frame has developed a rich, timeworn patina with areas of exposed wood that add warmth and character. A versatile scale for leaning atop a mantel, styling in an entryway, or layering into a bedroom or dining space.
Louis Philippe mirrors originated in France during the reign of King Louis Philippe (1830–1848) and became beloved for their understated elegance and approachable refinement. Unlike the more ornate styles that preceded them, these mirrors favored clean lines, rounded corners, and restrained detailing. These qualities continue to make Louis Philippe mirrors timeless in both traditional and modern interiors.
Dimensions:
40” W x 55.5” H
Good antique condition consistent with age and use. Wear throughout the gilt frame, including areas of loss, surface scratches, and exposed wood, particularly along the lower edge and corners. Minor separations and age-related cracking to the gesso and gilding. Mirror plate shows light age and wear with some spotting and imperfections consistent with antique glass. Structurally sound and full of character.
