Antique French Stripped Pine Buffet Deux Corps with Pull-Out Serving Board | Circa 1880
A wonderfully architectural French pine buffet deux corps dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880. Crafted in solid pine and later stripped to reveal a warm, natural patina, this handsome cupboard retains an abundance of period detail, including a deeply molded cornice with repeating gadrooned carving, fluted pilasters, carved rosette capitals, and turned supports separating the upper cabinet from the serving surface below.
The upper cabinet contains two fixed shelves, while the lower section offers two drawers above a shelved cupboard. A particularly charming feature is the pull-out serving board concealed beneath the work surface, providing additional space for entertaining, food preparation, or display.
Its generous proportions and restrained decoration allow it to work equally well in a kitchen, dining room, pantry, or living space. The softly weathered finish and evidence of age throughout lend the piece the character and authenticity sought after in French country furnishings.
Dimensions
55.5” W × 27” D × 82” H
Good antique condition consistent with age and use. The pine has been stripped at some point in its history, resulting in a beautifully mellow, natural finish with visible grain, old nail holes, minor losses, shrinkage, and surface wear throughout. The pull-out serving board operates smoothly. Historic woodworm has been treated and is now inactive (and typical of country pine furniture of this age). Minor separations to some boards, old repairs, and expected movement to the timber are present. A section of base trim is missing on base of the rear left side. Doors and drawers function properly and the cabinet remains sturdy and ready for everyday use.
