Pair of Percival Lafer MP-41 Brazilian Rosewood & Leather Lounge Chairs | Circa 1970
An iconic pair of MP-41 lounge chairs designed by Percival Lafer in Brazil during the 1970s. Widely regarded as one of Lafer’s most recognizable designs, these sculptural lounge chairs perfectly capture the relaxed elegance of Brazilian modernism.
The substantial solid rosewood frames support thick, sling-style leather cushions that appear to float within the structure. Decades of use have given the leather a wonderfully broken-in patina, resulting in the relaxed drape and character collectors seek. Equal parts comfortable and sculptural, these chairs are as inviting as they are visually striking.
Whether incorporated into a modern interior or layered into a more collected space, the MP-41 remains one of the defining seating designs of twentieth-century Brazilian furniture.
Sold as a pair.
Dimensions (each):
55”W
31”D
30”H
18” Seat Height
22” Seat Depth
Very good vintage condition with attractive age and use throughout. The rosewood frames remain sturdy with light surface wear consistent with age. The original leather cushions display a rich patina with expected creasing, areas of wear, scattered scuffs, and a few small stains and marks from decades of use. Some hardware is missing (as shown). One chair has a small area of wear to the canvas sling beneath the cushion that does not currently affect function but should be noted (as shown). Overall, an honest, beautifully aged pair that retains its original character.
