Mid-Century British Teak Gentleman’s Compactum Cabinet | Circa 1960
Acquired in England, this handsome teak compactum cabinet dates to the early 1960s and reflects the Scandinavian Modern influence seen in much of Britain’s finest postwar furniture.
Behind three paneled doors is a thoughtfully fitted interior with shelving, trays, a hanging compartment, and pull-out shelves below. Five locking drawers, several retaining their original green baize lining, provide ample concealed storage.
Originally designed as a gentleman’s wardrobe, this versatile piece works equally well as a linen press, dining room cupboard, bar cabinet, or office storage piece. Though unmarked, it is attributed to a British maker working in the Scandinavian Modern idiom of the period.
Dimensions
61.5” L x 18.5” D x 55.5” H
